Draft
Waste Management Master Plan (WMMP):
These
activities have been conducting by the team members of the project
along other activities. With the active co-operation of BIREC,
Germany, the quality management of the project has been monitored
during this tenure and necessary suggestions have been forwarded.
All the necessary activities have been conducting in the ward no.
24 for the application of WasteSafe Proposal and its achievement
and necessary refinement. The necessary relevant works and
information/data collection process have been conducting for the
development of WMMP. |

Demo Compost Plant:
The
construction of Demo Compost Plant was completed during this
tenure. The construction works were coordinated by Samadhan with
active supervision by the Research Assistant and Project Engineer
of WasteSafe II. The test set-ups were prepared using locally
available materials and the first series of test have been
started. The same sourch of MSW presently used by Samadhan in its
plant for composting has also been usedin the Demo Compost Plant. |

Pilot Scale Sanitary Landfill at Khulna:
After the official inauguration of construction works on last
March 19, 2008, the construction of various pre-designated
components of landfill has been completed within this tenure
despite some delayed.
Waste
deposition
was started from July 11, 2008.
Remaining components will be completed during waste deposition and
closure period of the landfill. The main focusing points of the
construction process are the using of entirely local building
materials and manual intensive construction methods, which have
been followed. Nearly 80% female work force was engaged in this
construction work. Constant monitoring was maintained and required
tests of the used engineering materials have been performed at the
laboratory of KUET to ensure quality of the works. |

Lysimeter
Test at KUET:
The construction works of Lysimeter test set-up at the back yard
of Civil Engineering Building of KUET has been completed. After
completion of cells and other necessary components, the waste
deposition, construction of top liner, gas and leachate management
systems, provision of the measurement of surface run-off and
percolated water have been competed. Three different conditions
have been simulating through the constructed lysimeter. These are:
suitability of local clay (same as used in pilot scale sanitary
landfill) as base liner, variation of performances due to the use
of two different systems for top cover construction. During the
construction process, close monitoring was conducted and required
laboratory experiments were performed. After placing top covers on
the wastes in lysimeter, the necessary investigations and tests
have also been started. |

Test Cells
at AIT:
After the finalization of test site outside of the AIT campus in a
private land, the construction of test cells have already been
started and it is expected that the construction of the test cells
will be competed soon after construction of relevant components,
deposition of waste and hence covering the system. |
