The International Conference on
Solid Waste Management in Developing Countries -WasteSafe 2011 will be held at the Department of Civil
Engineering, Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET),
Khulna, Bangladesh. KUET started its first academic activities in
3 June 1974 establishing as Khulna
Engineering College at 1967. The college was later converted to a degree
awarding autonomous Institution called Bangladesh Institute of
Technology (BIT), Khulna in July 1986 by the Government of
Bangladesh. The Institute was upgraded and renamed as Khulna
University of Engineering and Technology in September 2003. The
university is aimed to take the leadership in promoting
technological developments and management of the nation by
strengthening engineering and technological education and
research. KUET strives to a community of scholars and a
center for learning and developing knowledge based capabilities
which will promote academic achievements and research
excellence.
The Department of Civil
Engineering is one of the first academic disciplines of KUET
started its first undergraduate academic curriculum in 1974.
Later Masters’ and Ph.D. Programme started in 1994. It offers
basic and advanced regular and optional courses in various civil
engineering disciplines - Geotechnical and Geoenvironment,
Structure, Environment, Transportation and Water Resources. As
one of the developing countries, research in the above fields is
extremely important in the national context of Bangladesh.
The university campus extends
over an area of 101 acres and is located about 12km far from
city center. The campus is tastefully laid out with beautiful
plantation and with buildings of various nature and stature,
clean and wide roads. The campus presents a spectacle of harmony
in architecture and natural beauty. |
